Stephen Smith works with injured persons and persons accused of crimes to achieve the best possible outcome in often impossible legal situations.

Mr. Smith represents victims of automobile accidents, workplace injuries, premises liability, and general negligence matters.

Mr. Smith’s criminal practice is statewide and includes the representation of criminal defendants in serious federal matters. Some of his criminal defense cases include murder, manslaughter, drug offenses, traffic violations, domestic violence, sex offenses, and weapons offenses.

Member: Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Maine State Bar Association; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Maine Trial Lawyers Association; Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Military: A Desert Storm vet, Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1987-1991. He was a Sniper Team Leader in the reserves from 1991-1998 and an Engineer Platoon Leader from 1998-2000. Mr. Smith currently serves as a JAG officer with the Maine Army National Guard.

Margaret T. Melanson, Office Manager/Paralegal

Margaret specializes in assisting Attorney Smith with organizing and presenting our personal injury practice. She also organizes and manages document requests, our practice management software, account receivables and payables.
